FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions About Workwear

Question 1

How do I choose the right workwear for different tasks in my company?

Accepted Answer

Workwear should be selected based on the specific task, the work environment, and occupational safety requirements. For construction and industrial work, we recommend durable work trousers and work jackets with sufficient pockets for tools. In logistics and warehouse work, mobility and breathability are key, so flexible work shirts and lighter work outfits work best. For outdoor work, such as infrastructure sites and maintenance, it is important to choose weather-resistant rainwear or winter workwear, as well as high-visibility clothing to improve visibility if necessary. The starting point is always that the workwear supports performing the work safely and efficiently.

Question 2

When is high-visibility clothing mandatory and when is ordinary workwear sufficient?

Accepted Answer

High-visibility clothing is necessary when an employee works near traffic, heavy machinery, or other moving equipment, or when lighting is poor. For example, road maintenance, port areas, terminals, and industrial yards often require certified high-visibility workwear. In indoor spaces, such as industrial halls or warehouses, workwear without reflectors can sometimes be used, provided that a risk assessment allows it. In such cases, for example, the workwear non-hivis collection offers functional solutions without visibility features. Always check your industry's occupational safety guidelines and create a company-specific policy regarding clothing.

Question 3

How should workwear be sized to ensure a good fit throughout the entire shift?

Accepted Answer

Workwear should be sized primarily based on movement and layering. Work trousers should fit firmly at the waist but allow for squatting, reaching, and climbing without tightening. Work jackets and shirts should be chosen so that a mid-layer can fit underneath if needed, for example, when moving to a cold warehouse or outdoor work. Women's workwear is sized specifically for the female body, which improves comfort and occupational safety, as the clothes do not squeeze or get caught in machinery due to excess material. For companies, it is often sensible to define a common size chart and fit key models with personnel before making a larger purchase.

Question 4

What is the difference between ordinary workwear and flame-retardant workwear?

Accepted Answer

Flame-retardant workwear is made from materials that slow down or prevent flames and sparks from catching on the fabric. They meet stricter standards, for example, in welding, petrochemical, and energy sector jobs where heat radiation, molten metal splashes, or the risk of an electric arc are present. Ordinary workwear does not offer similar protection and is therefore better suited for general industrial work, logistics, or maintenance tasks where there is no specific fire hazard. If sparks, open flames, or high temperatures are present at the workstation, flame-retardant workwear is essential for occupational safety and must be chosen as a complete outfit, not just as individual garments.

Question 5

How do I maintain workwear so that its protective properties last as long as possible?

Accepted Answer

When maintaining workwear, it is important to follow the manufacturer's washing and drying instructions so that the fabric structure and any finishes, such as flame retardancy or water repellency, are preserved. Industrial washable workwear can withstand higher temperatures, but even they wear out faster if too much detergent or heat is used. We recommend sorting, for example, high-visibility clothing, flame-retardant workwear, and ordinary workwear separately so that different handling requirements are met. Avoid fabric softeners when the garment has a membrane or water-repellent treatment, as they can impair breathability. For company use, it is worth considering a professional laundry service to keep protective properties in controlled condition.

Question 6

What kind of workwear is best suited for winter conditions in outdoor work?

Accepted Answer

In winter conditions, the most functional solution is layering, combining a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a weather-protective outer layer. Winter workwear is designed to protect against cold, wind, and snow simultaneously, but it must also allow sufficient movement and breathability. On construction sites, in ports, and in distribution traffic, winter work trousers and padded work jackets with sufficient visibility are a practical solution. It is important to check that winter workwear is compatible with the personal protective equipment in use, such as safety footwear and gloves, so that protection is not compromised, for example, at the ankle or wrist. This keeps work safe and efficient even in freezing weather.

Question 7

How do I distinguish light protective clothing from actual personal protective equipment?

Accepted Answer

Light protective clothing is intended to protect workwear from soiling and light splashes, but it does not replace actual personal protective equipment when there is a clear chemical, thermal, or mechanical risk in the work. Typical applications include the food industry, light maintenance tasks, or visitor equipment in production facilities. Protective clothing classified as personal protective equipment, on the other hand, has precise standards and markings indicating what risks they protect against. A company's risk assessment defines whether light protective clothing is sufficient or if certified protective clothing and other protective equipment, such as protective gloves or respirators, are needed.

Question 8

Can women's workwear be replaced with unisex models without compromising comfort or safety?

Accepted Answer

Unisex models suit some users, but women's workwear generally offers a better fit and freedom of movement for women. When a garment fits correctly, pockets are positioned where they are intended to be used, the leg length is appropriate, and excess fabric does not get caught in machines or structures. A poorly fitting work outfit can practically reduce the willingness to use personal protective equipment correctly and impair work ergonomics. Therefore, we recommend choosing models designed for women whenever the personnel structure and size range allow it, especially for workwear intended for long-term use.

Question 9

How do we ensure that the company's workwear supports a consistent brand image?

Accepted Answer

A company's workwear is a visible part of the brand both towards customers and on job sites where work is done with other contractors. A consistent color scheme, a clear line between, for example, high-visibility clothing and darker workwear, and company logo printing create a professional impression. In practice, the process should start by defining basic models, such as work trousers, work jackets, and work shirts, and agreeing on which elements are mandatory for everyone. After this, work accessories such as beanies and caps that support the same look can be added. A well-planned workwear ensemble also facilitates storage and the management of replenishment orders.

Question 10

What should I do if the sizing or model of the workwear does not work in practical work?

Accepted Answer

If the sizing or model of the workwear does not work in practical work, the situation should not be resolved with individual exceptions, but by looking at the big picture. Collect feedback from users, for example, on whether work trousers tighten in a certain working position, is the hem of the work jacket too long near machines, or does high-visibility clothing get caught on structures. Based on the feedback, it can be assessed whether a different cut, a wider size range, or perhaps separate solutions for women and men are needed. Well-sized workwear reduces complaints, improves occupational safety, and supports the smoothness of work, so changes should be reacted to in time.
