Honeywell BW Flex4 is a ready-to-use four-gas detector for personal gas monitoring in industrial environments, maintenance work, confined spaces, water utilities, wastewater treatment, energy production and other hazardous work areas. This BW-FLEX4 configuration simultaneously measures oxygen (O2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO) and combustible gases (%LEL).
General Information
Honeywell BW Flex4 is a portable multi-gas detector for workplaces where toxic gases, oxygen deficiency, oxygen enrichment or explosive gas mixtures may be present. The detector provides real-time gas readings and warns the user of hazardous concentrations with audible, visual and vibrating alarms.
Product number BW-FLEX4 refers to the four-gas Flex4 model. The correct product image for this product is the yellow and black BW Flex4 device. The black BW Flex image showing the 4/5 marking refers to the BW Flex product family housing, which can be used for four- or five-gas configurations depending on the model. BW-FLEX4 should not be presented to customers as a five-gas detector.
The device is supplied calibrated and ready for use. The user is still responsible for carrying out the required functional test before use and for maintaining the detector through periodic calibration.
Which gases does this detector measure?
- Oxygen (O2)
- Hydrogen sulfide (H2S)
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
- Combustible gases (%LEL)

Maintenance and Calibration
Reliable gas detection requires regular functional testing and calibration. Protecton does not provide service or calibration for BW Flex4 detectors.
- The customer is responsible for functional testing, calibration and periodic maintenance.
- A bump test should be carried out according to the site safety procedure, often before use or before each shift.
- Calibration must be performed at least every 180 days or according to the organization’s own safety procedures.
- The customer must purchase a Honeywell-approved calibration and testing system separately for detector maintenance.
- The detector must not be used if calibration is overdue, the bump test fails or the device indicates a service alarm.
Benefits
- Clear four-gas monitoring for common industrial gas hazards.
- Ready-to-use delivery reduces commissioning delays.
- Audible, visual and vibrating alarms warn the user of hazardous gas concentrations.
- Compact and durable design for daily field use.
- Bluetooth connectivity supports device configuration and gas data management.
Applications
Honeywell BW Flex4 is suitable for workplaces where personnel need personal gas monitoring. Typical applications include confined spaces, tank work, industrial shutdowns, maintenance, process industries, water utilities, wastewater treatment plants and energy production facilities.
This BW Flex4 model is not suitable for customers who require five gases in one device, for example chlorine dioxide (ClO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), oxygen (O2) and LEL monitoring simultaneously.
Q & A
Is the detector ready for immediate use?
Yes. The detector is supplied calibrated and ready for use. The user must still perform the normal functional test before use according to the site safety procedure.
Which gases does this model detect?
This BW Flex4 configuration detects oxygen (O2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO) and combustible gases (%LEL).
Who is responsible for calibration?
The customer is responsible for calibration and functional testing. Protecton does not provide service or calibration for BW Flex4 detectors.
What does the customer need for calibration?
The customer must purchase a Honeywell-approved calibration and testing system separately, together with the required test gases according to the organization’s own maintenance process.
How often does the detector need to be calibrated?
The detector must be calibrated at least every 180 days or according to the organization’s own safety procedures.
Why do some images show a black housing and a 4/5 marking?
The black housing and 4/5 marking refer to the BW Flex product family housing, which can be used in different model versions. Product number BW-FLEX4 is the four-gas Flex4 model and should not be confused with five-gas Flex5 configurations.
Can the detector be used if calibration is overdue?
No. The gas detector must not be used if calibration is overdue or if the device fails the functional test.
