Service life

The CAMP Cobra retractable fall arrester has no fixed maximum service life expressed in years. Continued use is determined by correct use, storage, operating conditions, and successful periodic inspections.

Important time limit applies to the energy absorber on steel cable models: according to the manufacturer’s instructions, the energy absorber (shock absorber) fitted to the steel cable version must be replaced by an authorized service center no later than 12 years after the date of manufacture or 10 years after the date of first use. As part of this authorized service operation, the steel cable is replaced at the same time.

The device must be removed from service immediately after a fall event or if any inspection reveals damage, corrosion, malfunction, or any elongation of the external energy absorber (even partial).

Annual inspection

The device must be inspected at least every 12 months starting from the date of first use. The inspection must be carried out by a competent person, and the results must be recorded in the inspection log. A shorter inspection interval is recommended if the device is used intensively, by multiple users, or in harsh conditions.

What is checked during the annual inspection

• Cable: kinks, broken strands, corrosion, and any other damage
• Retraction and locking function (functional check in practice)
• Connector / swivel: correct function, wear, and any damage
• Housing: cracks, deformation, signs of moisture or contamination
• External energy absorber: elongation (even partial) and damage
• Markings: serial number and identification markings remain legible

Note: Under normal conditions, the periodic inspection can be performed without opening the housing. If any defect or malfunction is detected, the device must be removed from service and sent to an authorized C.A.M.P. service center. Cable replacement, energy absorber replacement, and any repairs after a fall are service operations performed by authorized service centers.

Warranty

The manufacturer’s warranty is 3 years from the date of purchase and covers material and manufacturing defects. The warranty period does not define the actual service life of the product.
